The MRC Mitochondrial Biology Unit (Director: Professor Massimo Zeviani) wishes to appoint a research assistant to join Dr Alex Whitworth and the Mitochondrial Neurodegeneration group. The Mitochondrial Neurodegeneration group pursues an integrated programme of investigations which elucidate critical homeostatic mechanisms that regulate the integrity of mitochondria and maintain the normal neuronal functioning. In particular, the group uses Drosophila and cellular models to elucidate the molecular mechanisms of pathogenesis of various neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s Disease and Motor Neuron Disease.
The appointee will be a key member of the group, providing technical and scientific support for a range of projects investigating the influence of mitochondrial processes on maintaining normal neuronal function and survival, and their impact on neurodegenerative diseases.
The post-holder will assist in general lab management and maintenance to ensure smooth running of the lab environment. They will perform routine procedures such as molecular cloning and Drosophila stock maintenance. The post-holder will also contribute to a range of molecular, cellular and organismal assays to support various lab projects.
The MRC Mitochondrial Biology Unit is a world-renowned centre for mitochondrial research. Additional information can be found at www.mrc-mbu.cam.ac.uk.
Your salary is supported by a flexible pay and reward policy, 30 days’ annual leave entitlement and an optional MRC final salary pension scheme.
