Based in the Northern Institute for Cancer Research (NICR) Medicinal Chemistry Laboratories, as part of the Cancer Research UK Drug Discovery Programme, you will design, synthesise, characterise and optimise novel small molecule targeted anticancer drugs. You will be required to plan and carry out independent original research encompassing investigations leading to the discovery of new knowledge and initiate, or participate in, inter-disciplinary collaborations. You will provide guidance to other staff and students, including possible supervision of PhD and undergraduate students.

You will have an undergraduate degree in a relevant science subject, preferably organic or medicinal chemistry; a PhD (candidates who have submitted their thesis will be considered) in the area of medicinal chemistry and an understanding of medicinal chemistry and drug design. You will also have expertise in synthetic organic chemistry as well as in a wide range of analytical techniques and experience of managing safety aspects of work.

You will have excellent team-working, oral communication and writing skills. You will be enthusiastic and hard-working with capacity for original thought.
