Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in the laboratory of Professor Dax Fu in Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. This position requires a Ph.D. degree in cell biology or biochemistry related fields to study human zinc transporters in insulin-secreting pancreatic beta cells (http://fulab.johnshopkins.edu). A pancreatic zinc transporter, ZnT8 is a molecular marker and therapeutic target for detection and treatment of both type-1 and type-2 diabetes. We use a combination of membrane biochemistry and cell biology techniques to investigate ZnT8-mediated subcellular zinc distribution and cross talks with the insulin secretion pathway, and to develop diagnostic and therapeutic reagents.  Experience with mammalian cell culture, genome editing, cloning, and imaging is required.
