Seeking Postdoctoral Fellow to work on an ARC Discovery project "Enhanced interaction of electromagnetics and mechanics in structured media".

Position Overview

This Postdoctoral Fellow position is to work on the ARC Discovery project "Enhanced interaction of electromagnetics and mechanics in structured media".  The goals of this project are:

• Demonstrate the enhancement of electromagnetic forces in structured media with engineered mechanical and electromagnetic properties
• Utilise mechanical deformation to control the transmission properties of media for microwave, terahertz and optical wavelengths
• Increase the effective strength of electromagnetic forces using media which undergoes spontaneous symmetry breaking

Your major responsibility is to carry out combined theoretical and experimental research. This project will use metamaterials as the system in which to investigate the interaction between electromagnetic and mechanical dynamics, which can result in a highly nonlinear system. Thus a background in both metamaterials and electromagnetic forces is required of the candidate, including an understanding of their nonlinear dynamics.

Salary Package: $66,318 - $84,122 per annum plus 17 % superannuation

Position Location

This position is located within the Research School of Physics and Engineering represents Australia's largest University based research and teaching activity in the physics discipline. The School is home to a number of major national research facilities and hundreds of academics, technical staff and students who form the Schools greatest asset, its people. The research encompasses a large number or areas from quantum science to string theory.
