The Research Center of the Montreal Heart Institute, a teaching and research hospital affiliated with Université de Montréal, and the Department of Medicine invite applications for a new principal investigator position in the emerging field of the design, methodologies, statistics and conduct of innovative clinical studies.

We are seeking candidates with a Ph.D. and/or M.D. diploma who preferably have conducted research at the postdoctoral level, have a record demonstrating excellence in research and will present a well-developed innovative research plan. He/she is expected to pursue an active research program mostly related to innovative approaches and methodologies of cutting-edge clinical studies. These could include for example adaptive trial designs (possibly incorporating Bayesian methods), use of biomarkers to identify subpopulations of responsive patients, and randomized trials based on registry data. The successful applicant will join the research teams of the Montreal Heart Institute who are involved in major cardiovascular clinical studies. He/she will also act as a collaborator and/or mentor for the research teams at the Montreal Heart Institute, especially for the individuals directly involved in the design, conduct and analysis of clinical trials. In addition, he/she will be encouraged to extend his/her research activities to other medical fields as developed in the medical research network at the Université de Montréal and beyond. The successful applicant will also expect to contribute to the teaching activities of the Faculty of Medicine. The language of teaching at the Université de Montréal is French; language training is offered to non-French speakers who will be required to be sufficiently proficient to teach in French after a period of three years.

The successful candidate will be nominated for a prestigious Tier 2 Canada Research Chair. Tier 2 Chairs are intended for exceptional emerging scholars (i.e., candidates must have less than 10 years of experience as an active researcher in their field at the time of nomination). Applicants who are more than 10 years from having earned their highest degree (and where career breaks exist, such as maternity, parental or extended sick leave, clinical training, etc.) may have their eligibility for a Tier 2 Chair assessed through the program’s Tier 2 justification process. Please consult the Canada Research Chairs website for full program information, including further details on eligibility criteria.

The Université de Montréal offers competitive salary and benefits packages according to the collective agreement. The starting date is open. Applications will be accepted until November 1st 2015 and will be evaluated on an ongoing basis.

Interested candidates should send a letter of interest, complete CV, research plan and the contact information for three referees, in electronic format, to the Search Committee:
