Dalhousie Inflammation Group/REACH Team

Position Summary:

Funding is available for three full time Postdoctoral Fellow / Research Associate positions within the Faculty of Medicine at Dalhousie University. Candidates will work as part of a translational team of basic and clinical investigators examining mechanisms that promote resolution in chronic inflammatory disease states. The CIHR-funded REACH team includes the following investigators:

Michael Bezuhly, MD
Beata Derfalvi, MD
John G Hanly, MD
Thomas B Issekutz, MD
Brent Johnston, PhD
Jean-François Légaré, MD

Work will focus on identifying and characterizing mechanisms contributing to the pathogenesis and resolution of disease in rheumatoid arthritis and chronic heart disease. Specific areas of interest include:
• The role of mast cells, NKT cells, and macrophage populations in immune regulation.
• Role of cytokines, proteases and other mediators in inflammation and disease resolution.
• Regulation of pain and neuroinflammatory responses.
• Regulation of fibrosis and tissue injury.
• Correlation of disease parameters with clinical outcome and identification of biomarkers.

Requirements:

A PhD and/or MD and relevant research experience, as evidenced by high quality peer reviewed publications, is required. The ideal candidate will have proven expertise in immunology, cell biology, physiology or a related area, and a strong knowledge in some or all of the core research techniques used by the team. These include flow cytometry, imaging, molecular biology, in vivo disease models, electrophysiology, pain behaviour, and assessment of cellular and mediator responses.
