Department of Biology
University of Copenhagen
A 3-year postdoctoral position funded by ERC Grant PERSIST is available immediately for an enthusiastic and highly motivated postdoctoral researcher in the laboratory of Prof Kenn Gerdes at the Department of Biology, University of Copenhagen.
The research group of Prof Gerdes has recently relocated to the University of Copenhagen and is embedded in a newly created dynamic and inspirational research environment hosting five other research groups working in the field of molecular microbiology.
Area of research Our work focuses on the study of bacterial stress responses and persistence. Our recent publications on (p)ppGpp, toxin – antitoxins and bacterial persistence (Maisonneuve et al., Cell 154, 1140-50, 2013; Germain et al., Mol. Cell 248-54, 2013; Winther et al., Nature Commun. 4: 2796, 2013; Maisonneuve et al., Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA 108, 13206-13211, 2011; Winther & Gerdes, Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA 108, 7403-7407, 2011; Germain et al., Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA 112, 5171-6, 2015) implicates TA-encoded toxins as being essential for persistence.
Qualifications Candidates should hold a PhD-degree within the area of bacterial biochemistry or genetics. Experience in the field of molecular microbiology is pivotal but a candidate familiar with the translation apparatus and/or with bacterial stress responses will be preferred. Excellent written and spoken English is a requirement for the position. The candidates should document a track record of scientific publications, and have the ability to work autonomously as well as in a team.
