within the group Microbial Genome Research. Appointment will be initially for 2 years and subject to extension based on a positive interim evaluation. The salary level will be TV-L 13. The position is offered full time but not appropriate for part time work. Starting date will be as soon as possible.

The research focus of the group is population genomics of pathogenic, commensal, and other bacteria. We apply genome analyses to investigate the mechanisms and dynamics of bacterial evolution and to reconstruct the history of their spatial spread. Second and third generation high throughput sequencers are available in the institute. For data analysis, a dedicated bioinformatics server infrastructure has been established consisting of 28 server nodes, 5.5 TB of RAM and 384 CPU cores, leading to a total computing power of 5 TFLOPs.

We seek a highly motivated and creative person with interests in bioinformatics, population genetics, microbiology, and molecular biology. Candidates should have a doctoral degree in the field of bioinformatics/computer sciences, microbiology, or genetics. Familiarity with genome data and experience with command-line data analyses and programming (e. g. Python, Perl, Java, or C) are essential.
