he lab uses in vivo fate mapping strategies in combination with differentCNS lesion and disease models to investigate the role of perivascular cells and astrocytes for disease progression and regeneration. We discovered a new population of perivascular cells, called type A pericytes, as the source of fibrotic CNS scar tissue following spinal cord injury, see Göritz et al., Science, 2011. Recently we found that parenchymal astrocytes are recruited into a neurogenic program following stroke, see Magnusson/Göritz et al., Science, 2014. The intended project will investigate pericytes and astrocytes as well as their interactions in the context of Alzheimer disease, using several established mouse models.
