摘要:

A postdoctoral position is available at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln (UNL) in the context of the new NSF consortium on “Imaging and Controlling Ultrafast Dynamics of Atoms, Molecules, and Nanostructures.” The position is initially for one year and can be renewed for a total of up to 2.5 years.

The research is concerned with probing ultrafast dynamics using femtosecond hard X-ray sources with the goal to create a "molecular movie" of the reaction. More specifically, it is focused on the ultrafast imaging of the charge- and energy transfer in molecules upon X-ray photoabsorption. The research will be conducted in collaboration with the Macdonald Laboratory at Kansas State University (KSU).
This project involves performing the first time-resolved experiments using a unique laser-driven femtosecond hard X-ray (50-100 keV) source at UNL. Complementary experiments will also be performed at X-ray free-electron lasers (XFELs), such as the LCLS at SLAC National Laboratory, the Japanese SACLA XFEL, or FLASH in Hamburg, Germany.

The applicant should have a PhD in Physics, Chemistry, Optics, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline. Experience with ultrafast, high-power lasers, X-ray diffraction and/or ultrafast science is desirable.

Applicants should submit a CV, including publication list, and the contact information for three references by email to Prof. Matthias Fuchs (mfuchs (at) unl.edu). Emails should include the text “Postdoc application” in the subject line. The position is open until filled.

Lincoln, Nebraska is a mid-size city (population: 300k) with the security of a small town. It is the state capital and the home of UNL, the flagship campus of the University of Nebraska. Lincoln offers a lot of cultural attractions and diversity with a college town atmosphere: liberal, young and educated, with nice architecture, lots of good bars and restaurants. It is a very affordable place to live and has been voted as the happiest US city in a recent Gallup Poll….
