Postdoctoral Research Scientist : Galway, Ireland

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a full-time fixed term position as a postdoctoral research scientist with the Apoptosis Research Centre (ARC) at the National University of Ireland, Galway.
This position is funded by the Health Research Board and is available from 1st March 2015 for an initial 18 month period.

The ARC is a centre of excellence within the NUI Galway that performs basic and translational research on the mechanisms of cell death in various disease models. Professor Samali’s group focus their research on endoplasmic reticulum stress and the unfolded protein response, and their cross-talk with other cellular processes including cell death, autophagy and inflammation.

Job Description:
The successful candidate will require experience in several of the following areas, cell culture, handling patient samples, RT-PCR analyses, ELISA, FACS, and immunostaining, and will collaborate with a multidisciplinary group of scientists. Experience with animals would be desirable.

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should have a track record in a research and development environment and strong biochemistry/molecular immunology experience is essential. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in the biological sciences. The ideal candidate would have experience in cell biology and either molecular immunology or ER stress as evidenced by a publication record. Candidates require excellent communication and organisational skills; be highly motivated and passionate about developing new products; and have strong documentation, oral and interpersonal skills.

Salary: €38,860 per annum (public sector pay policy rules pertaining to new entrants will apply)

Start date: Position is available from 1st March 2015.
