Fungal Geneticist or Microbial Bioinformatician - Food Quality Laboratory 0044 : Beltsville, MD, United States

A postdoctoral research opportunity is available for a Fungal Geneticist or Microbial Bioinformatician with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Agricultural Research Service (ARS) Food Quality Laboratory (FQL) in Beltsville, Maryland. The selected applicant will investigate the molecular mechanism of mycotoxin production and regulation in the fungal species of penicillium expansum through genetic and genomic strategies.

If an applicant is selected as a Fungal Geneticist, the position requires skills in gene function studies. These include molecular biological and biotechnical operations such as DNA, RNA manipulation, library construction, secondary metabolism pathway and biosynthesis, mycotoxin biosynthesis, pathway analysis, next generation sequencing technologies, functional genomics studies. Additionally, bioinformatics skills with regards to database and genome analysis are preferred.

If an applicant is selected as a Microbial Bioinformatician, the position requires a strong background and training in bioinformatics including genome sequencing, next generation sequencing technologies, genome analysis, RNA-Seq data analysis, functional genomics. Additionally, basic knowledge and skills with regards to molecular biology and genetics are desirable.

The appointment is full-time for one year and may be renewed upon the recommendation of the ARS and the availability of funding. The annual stipend rate for this position is $65,000. The participant must show proof of health and medical insurance. Health insurance may be obtained through ORAU. A relocation allowance is available. A travel allowance is available to reimburse travel-related expenses to scientific and professional development activities. The participant does not become an employee of the ARS, ORAU or ORISE.

While participants will not enter into an employment relationship with ARS, this position requires a pre-employment check and a full background investigation.

This opportunity is available to U.S. citizens, Lawful Permanent Residents (LPR), and foreign nationals.

Qualifications:

To be eligible, applicants must have received a doctorate degree in Biology, Microbiology, Genetics, Biochemistry or Bioinformatics within five years of the desired starting date. Applicants should be strong in Fungal Genetics and Biology in relation to secondary metabolism biosynthesis, specifically on mycotoxin formation or have strong Bioinformatics skills for genome analysis.

How to Apply:

A complete application consists of:
■ An application
■ Official transcript(s) – scanned copies are acceptable
■ A current Resume/CV

All documents must be in English or include an official English translation.
