The Position:

We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to undertake user centric computing for health related projects. The Fellow will contribute to multiple projects undertaken by the CSIRO. These projects will include the development of a mobile platform to support individuals receiving surgical implants, and their care team of surgeons, therapists and home carers. The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team working within the Australian e-Health Research Centre (AEHRC), part of the CSIRO Digital Productivity Flagship.

Specifically you will:

•Conduct User needs and feasibility studies to determine the appropriate mobile platform and delivery components to support patients and care teams prior to, and immediately after surgery;
•Develop decision support algorithms for shared decision making around alternatives to surgery;
•Participate in a large trial to assist in system deployment and data collection;
•Carry out innovative, impactful research of strategic importance to CSIRO;
•Produce high quality scientific and technical outputs including journal articles, conference papers and presentations, patents and technical reports.


Location: Marsfield, New South Wales Australia
Salary: AUD$78K to AU$88K plus up to 15.4% superannuation (pension fund)

To be successful in this position you will need:

•A doctorate (or will shortly satisfy the requirements of a PhD) in a relevant discipline area, such as Information Systems, Human-Computer Interaction, or Computer Science.
•High level written and oral communication skills with the ability to represent the research team effectively internally and externally, including at national and international conferences.
•Experience in designing trials of digital interventions to address real world questions.
•Experience in the analysis of information collected through user surveys and automated methods such as interaction logs.
•The ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary, regionally dispersed research team, plus the motivation and discipline to carry out autonomous research.


Owing to terms of the fellowship, candidates must not have more than 3 years of relevant Postdoctoral experience.
