Postdoctoral Fellow – Biological Sciences (COBRE 14-0114)

The West Virginia University Research Corporation (WVURC) seeks to hire a Postdoctoral Fellow – Biological Sciences. This position will be an exciting opportunity for a post-doctoral fellow to assist with the setup, coordination and implementation of clinical translation projects in the newly NIH funded West Virginia University Stroke COBRE (Centers for Biomedical Research Excellence).

This post-doctoral fellowship will provide a research training experience designed to develop broad-based expertise in clinical translational stroke research and to develop the skills required for independent research. The position will design and perform experiments including: animal studies, biomarker evaluation (cardiovascular characterization and immunological assessment), tissue culture of human and animal cells, DNA/RNA and protein extractions, quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction, and Northern and Western blot analysis.

Institutional support will be available for grant development, preparation and submission. It is anticipated that, at the end of the training, the highly qualified and skilled individual will be well placed to launch into a productive research career.

A Ph.D. in molecular and cellular biology, genetics, or other biological science, and broad experience in animal science research are required. Experience or interest in cardiovascular and immunological evaluation is preferred.
