A postdoctoral position is available in the McLaurin Lab in the Department of Chemistry in the area of synthesis and characterization of semiconductor nanocrystals. The ideal candidate will have a PhD in chemistry or a closely related area, with research experience in colloidal nanoparticle synthesis using standard air-free Schlenk technique and characterization (UV-Vis abs, luminescence, TEM, XRD). Experience with synthesis of semiconductor nanocrystals, microwave-assisted synthesis, nanocrystal surface chemistry, and electrochemistry are a plus. The successful candidate will be key personnel in the group, developing nanocrystal synthetic procedures for application in solar energy harvesting and biology. The candidate will also be involved in highly collaborative activities in the Department and University and gain experience mentoring and training students, presenting at meetings, and writing papers and proposals. Screening of applications will begin November 15th, 2014 and continue until the position is filled.
Minimum Qualifications: A doctoral degree in physical sciences or engineering by start date is required. The applicant should have good leadership skills, including the ability to train other lab members, documented experience with inorganic or materials synthesis, and excellent communication skills including manuscript preparation and presentation of research at seminars. The applicant must also be able to conduct research independently, communicate ideas with lab members, and design and evaluate new experiments and ideas that expand on current research scope available.
