Postdoc / Programmer analyst : Boston, United States

GENERAL SUMMARY: My laboratory applies engineering, computational, and machine learning methods to understand brain activity and to improve the clinical care of critically ill hospitalized patients with neurological problems. A massive database of diverse clinical data that we are building is central to these efforts.

Specific efforts focus on developing objective methods for monitoring and controlling pain and sedation in ICU patients; creating tools to predict neurological outcome in patients with coma after cardiac arrest; creating tools for measuring, predicting, and preventing delirium in hospitalized patients, and understanding the relationships between patterns of neurophysiology, cardiovascular physiology, and risk for neurological deterioration. My laboratory also creates tools and infrastructure for aggregating and mining massive sets of structured and unstructured clinical data, including free text reports and clinical notes.

The ideal candidate will have excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills, knowledge of software development methodologies and systems design, and a desire to solve complex and large-scale problems.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position involves a range of opportunities, including:
- Analysis of EEG and other physiological time series data
- Software development and code management
- Management of a large physiological time-series database
- Technical set-up and hands-on equipment responsibilities
- Running clinical experiments at MGH

I am seeking a full-time postdoctoral fellow or research scientist with a strong interest in applying clinical brain research and medical informatics. Applicants should possess a PhD in a relevant discipline (electronic engineering, computer engineering or applied mathematics) and have established an excellent research profile in signal processing or machine learning. This position is initially available for a period of two years.

SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED: In addition, the ideal applicant should have a strong programming background (e.g. MATLAB, C++, R) and the drive and enthusiasm to learn about clinical neuroscience by assisting in state-of-the art patient-centered research….
