The German Primate Center GmbH (Deutsches Primatenzentrum, DPZ) – a Leibniz-Institute for Primate Research located in Göttingen – is a primate research and competence center that pursues basic research in three areas, Organismic Primate Biology, Infection Research and Neurosciences. The DPZ maintains four field stations for research on primates and is one of 89 research and infrastructure establishments of the Leibniz Association.

Research of the Infection Biology Unit is focused on host cell interactions of immunodeficiency viruses and emerging viruses. Within the framework of these projects, we have, starting immediately, an externally funded 1 year position available for a

Postdoctoral Researcher (f/m)

The successful applicant will study the host cell entry of Ebola virus, using surrogate systems which can be handled in BSL2 and BSL3 laboratories. The research focus will be on a comparison of the glycoproteins of current and previously circulating viruses regarding cell tropism, receptor usage and mucosal transmission. In addition, strategies to inhibit host cellular entry will be assessed.

Applicants should hold a Ph.D. or an equivalent degree in virology or related biomedical sciences. Experience in research in a BSL3 laboratory is of advantage. Expertise in techniques of virology and/or molecular biology and biochemistry is requested. Curiosity, diligence and the ability to work in a team are essential.

The appointment at the DPZ is in accordance with public service regulations. Salary will be paid according to TV-L. Qualified applicants with a disability will be given preference.
