Our research team is looking for a highly motivated data scientist with curriculum in physics, mathematics, statistics, or computer science and with significant experience in statistical data analysis and machine learning. The major task is to extract information from large databases, construct novel classifiers, and to develop methods for network inference. As an academic position, there will be given sufficient freedom to follow own research ideas. The position is initially limited to 2 years but can be prolonged up to six years. The position comes with a highly competitive net salary of about 3k Euros. Candidates that also would like to be founders of a startup company will be given preference.

The Institute of Mathamatical Modelling of Biological Systems tries to understand how complex behavior emerges from the interplay of relatively simple components. Our approach is to investigate the design of real biological networks, identify generic design principles, and compare them with mathematical models that have been optimized with respect to objective functions that reflect the effect of natural selection
