摘要:

Division
Department of Laboratory Medicine, Division of Metabolic Diseases. The Division of Metabolic Diseases is located at the Retzius laboratories at Solna campus of Karolinska Institutet (KI) and offers an outstanding research environment. The project advertised here will be conducted in professor Nils-Göran Larssons laboratory at KI in collaboration with the Max Planck Institute for Biology of Ageing, Köln, Germany, and other research groups at KI.

Duties
Studies of the role of mitochondrial dysfunction in disease and ageing with special focus on neurodegeneration. Mitochondria are essential for cell function and mitochondrial dysfunction has been implicated in a variety of hereditary diseases, normal ageing and age-related diseases. Mitochondrial dysfunction has been tightly linked to changes occurring in aging neurons and in neurodegenerative disease. Using mouse models, the group of Nils-Göran Larsson focuses on understanding basic molecular processes involved in regulating mitochondrial function as well as the impact of mitochondrial dysfunction on disease and ageing. In this project we aim at understanding fundamental mechanisms whereby neuron identities are established and maintained and how such mechanism are affected in ageing or diseased neurons. Special focus is directed at mechanisms for mitochondrial dynamics, neuronal transport of mitochondria and the role or pathogenic mtDNA mutations in neurodegeneration.

Entry requirements
Applications are invited from individuals of the highest calibre with Ph.D. and/or M.D. degrees. A strong background in molecular biology and/or mouse genetics is required. A working knowledge of the English language is required. Personal suitability is of great importance when evaluating the applicants.

A person is eligible for a postdoc position if he or she has obtained a PhD no more than seven years before the last date of employment as postdoc. People who graduated earlier may be considered if there are special reasons.

Application process
An employment application must contain the following documents in English or Swedish:
1.A complete curriculum vitae, including date of the thesis defence, title of the thesis, previous academic positions, academic title, current position, academic distinctions, and committee work
2.A complete list of publications
3.A summary of current work (no more than one page)
4.Verifications for crediting of illness, military service, work for labour unions or student organisations, parental leave or similar circumstances
5.Verification from the thesis defence committee or the equivalent (only if the thesis defence is scheduled within three months after the application deadline)

The application is to be submitted on the MyNetwork recruitment system.
