Postdoctoral associate position available in the area of materials and nanoplasmonics at the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD). SUTD is a vibrant new university in Singapore that is established in collaboration with MIT.
The research focus for this position will be on the integration of chalcogenide materials to control the color of plasmonic nanostructures. Plasmonic color printing was introduced previously [K. Kumar et al., Nature Nanotechnology 2012] as a means to produce dye-free ultra high-resolution color prints at the optical diffraction limit. By patterning silver disks of different sizes, their optical resonances can be tuned across the visible range to produce a full spectrum of colors when illuminated with a broadband light source. Recent efforts have shown possibility to extend this to the much cheaper metal, i.e. Aluminum [S.J. Tan et al., Nano Lett 2014].
This postdoctoral position will provide training in the nanofabrication of these color prints and require the design of the color pixel geometry and composition to introduce chalcogenide materials, such as GeSbTe, which can be switched between two different structural states with sub nanosecond electrical pulses. We plan to exploit the high refractive index contrast between these states to control the plasmon resonance in various metamaterial structures.
Candidates with prior experience in nanofabrication processes will be preferred.
The initial duration of the Post-Doctoral Fellowship is 12 months, with likelihood for extension. The position will be available from October 2014.
