Postdoctoral Research Assistant: Next Generation Sequencing Facility Manager : DUNDEE, United Kingdom

Grade 7 (£30,434 – £37,394)

We are seeking a Researcher maintain and facilitate the running of the Genomic Sequencing Unit (GSU), the University of Dundee’s high-throughput sequencing facility. The candidate will be based at the College of Life Sciences, University of Dundee and will be responsible for the smooth operation and organisation of the facility, with tasks including project implementation and management, sample processing and running and maintenance of the sequencing instrumentation. This post is available until July 2017.

The Genomic Sequencing Unit (http://gsu.lifesci.dundee.ac.uk/) is a thriving, genomics facility based at the University of Dundee, providing access to the latest next-generation sequencing to researchers. The facility collaborates with partners in the full project life cycle, including project inception and design, grant applications and data generation. GSU also works very closely with the Data Analysis Group (http://www.compbio.dundee.ac.uk/dag.html) and the Division of Computational Biology (http://www.compbio.dundee.ac.uk/)

An experienced professional with relevant qualification in biological science is expected, along with significant experience in advanced molecular biological laboratory techniques. The ideal candidate will be well organised, highly motivated, and have a proven dedication to delivery of tasks. Project management experience is desirable.

Main responsibilities:

1. Monitoring the service enquiry webpage and interaction with collaborators/co-workers.
2. Development and set-up projects and quotations for the service
3. Sample assessment – the quality/quantity of the nucleic acid samples delivered to GSU.
4. Performing laboratory analyses to prepare users’ nucleic acid samples for analysis on the next generation sequencing instrumentation
5. Running samples on and performing day-to-day maintenance of the next generation sequencing instrumentation.
6. Keeping comprehensive and up to date records of tasks performed
7. Troubleshooting GSU’s sequencing workflow.
8. Keeping up-to-date with advances in the field of next generation sequencing technologies.
9. Delivering sequencing data and liaising with the bioinformatics group
