Postdoctoral Positions in Chemical Biology at the University of Pittsburgh : Pittsburgh, PA, United States

The research group of Kabirul Islam at the Department of Chemistry, University of Pittsburgh is seeking candidates for postdoctoral position to start from October 2014 or later. The broad interest of the lab is in molecular and system level understanding of epigenetic mechanisms in gene regulation. The work, being highly multidisciplinary, combines organic synthesis, mechanistic biochemistry, and protein engineering with proteomics and functional genomics to investigate the role of chemical modifications occurring in the chromatin landscape. Development of small-molecule therapeutics to reverse epigenetic misregulation in human disease is another major direction.
Candidates should hold a Ph. D. degree and have strong background either in biochemistry and molecular biology or chemical biology. Experience with protein expression (in E. coli and preferably insect cells) and purification is required. The University of Pittsburgh Genomics and Proteomics Laboratories, Drug Discovery Institute, the School of Medicine and the Comprehensive Cancer Center provide a wide range of facilities and training essential for biomedical research. Additionally, because of the lab’s interests in organic synthesis and cell biology, the candidate will have the opportunity to expand his/her skills in multiple disciplines.
