Post Doctoral Researcher : Gentofte, Denmark

Postdoctoral researcher – metabolomics at Steno Diabetes Center
If you are an ambitious researcher interested in medical applications of metabolomics, you could be our new colleague in the Systems Medicine Department at Steno Diabetes Center. We currently have one full time postdoctoral position open starting October 2014.

About the department
Biomedical research at Steno Diabetes Center is organised into four departments, which all apply findings from research in the clinic in order to improve outcomes for patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes. In Systems Medicine we aim to achieve a system-level understanding of metabolism and to translate this knowledge into novel solutions to benefit human health. We are particularly interested in the identification of disease vulnerabilities associated with different metabolic phenotypes and the underlying mechanisms linking these vulnerabilities with the development of specific disorders or their co-morbidities, with specific focus on obesity and diabetes and their co-morbidities.

The job
You will be mainly working in the ongoing project METSY (Neuroimaging platform for characterisation of metabolic co-morbidities in psychotic disorders: 9/2013-9/2017), which is coordinated by Steno Diabetes Center. You will also be an integral member of the newly established Metabolomics Laboratory at Steno and will thus have an opportunity to collaborate with other research departments at Steno as well as with the clinic.

Your main research area will be metabolomics application as related to the studies of metabolic co-morbidities in psychotic disorders. As part of this, you will be responsible for global metabolomics analyses in several cohort studies as well as developments of novel targeted analytical methods such as to study endocannabinoid system in psychoses.

Qualifications
You have a research background and track record in biomedical metabolomics, with hands on experience in analytical methods and basic data processing and analyses, as well as knowledge of biochemistry. We expect you to have PhD in analytical chemistry and/or bioanalytical chemistry, or equivalent. Ideally you have experience in chromatographic and mass spectrometric techniques for metabolomics as well as in statistical methods for the analysis of metabolomics data.

On a personal level, you are flexible, collaborative, and you thrive in a dynamic research environment. You enjoy working independently and are good at troubleshooting. You will be joining a newly established department, and we expect you to contribute to its further growth as a positive and dedicated colleague.

Employment conditions
Your terms of employment will be according to relevant collective agreement. It is a temporary position ending September 2017. Extension of the position may be considered depending on available funding. Your place of work will be Gentofte, Denmark.

Interviews will be held in English.
