The McDonald Institute and British Institute in Eastern Africa invite applications for a two-year post-doctoral Research Fellowship in Eastern African Archaeology. The McDonald Institute is an interdisciplinary centre for archaeology and the research school of the Division of Archaeology, Department of Archaeology and Anthropology, University of Cambridge. It is based in central Cambridge.  This position is co-funded and co-managed by the British Institute in Eastern Africa based in Nairobi. The successful applicant will report to the Directors of both institutions and will be expected to spend up to half the working year in Cambridge and half in eastern Africa, spread over several visits.

The Fellowship will consist of a two-year stipend at Research Associate level (£28,132 - £36,661 p.a.)  with an annual BIEA research budget of £5,000 and the opportunity to apply to the McDonald Institute for up to £5,000 p.a. of additional research support funds.  You will ideally have prior experience in eastern Africa, be familiar with the work of the BIEA there, have both administrative and teaching experience and be passionate about communicating your knowledge of Africa and its archaeology to others. The successful applicant will have completed their doctorate at the time of taking up their fellowship on or around 1 October 2014.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 2 years.

Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a health assessment.
