Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine -Parasitology

Ref: 058/057

Salary: £26,527 (Research Assistant - without PhD)

£31,644 (Post-doctoral Research Assistant - with PhD)

Full time, fixed-term appointment to 31st March 2016 subject to meeting project milestones.

LSTM is an internationally recognised centre of excellence for research in tropical diseases. The creation of effective links with governments, organisations and institutions and responding to the health needs of communities allows LSTM to promote improved health, particularly for people of the less developed / resource poorest countries in the tropics and sub-tropics.

Funded by the Global Health Innovative Technology Fund (GHIT), The Anti-Wolbachia Consortium (A·WOL) is seeking to appoint a Research Assistant and a Post-doctoral Research Assistant to support an exciting new area of research into novel strategies and tools for filarial drug discovery and development. You will work closely with a multi-disciplinary team of scientists within LSTM to develop new macrofilaricidal drugs in collaboration with partners in Liverpool and Japan.

We are looking for individuals with excellent communication skills (both written and verbal), well developed research and analytical skills, plus the ability to work as an integral and co-operative member of a multi-disciplinary research team.

Previous experience of small animal in vivo biology including procedures requiring Home Office licensing is essential as is experience of general biomedical laboratory techniques. Prior experience of experimental pharmacology or parasitology would be advantageous but not essential.

For appointment at Post-doctoral Research Assistant level you will need to have a PhD in a relevant area of biomedical science research and have a current UK institutional animal handling certification.

For appointment at Research Assistant level, the above criteria would be applicable but with requirement for a BSc or Masters degree rather than a doctorate.

Further details of the post can be found by visiting our website at http://www.lstmliverpool.ac.uk/working-with-us/human-resources/current-vacancies

Closing Date: Thursday 24th April 2014 (12 noon UK time)
