The Global Public Policy Institute (GPPi) seeks a research associate based at the institute's Berlin office. The successful candidate will join GPPi’s Global Internet Politics Program. We are looking for an entrepreneurial individual who will help shape GPPi’s newest program. This involves contributing to ongoing projects, including a joint project with the New American Foundation on “Security and Freedom in the Digital Age” as well as the Global Governance Futures 2025 working group on internet governance. The research associate will also be expected to develop new projects and partnerships.

The successful candidate must have:

  • Strong analytical skills and outstanding academic background in the social sciences, international law, history or a related field.
  • Strong academic and policy interests in the field of global internet politics (for the focal areas, please refer to the Global Internet Politics Program page). Relevant publications and experience with policy oriented research and policy work are desirable.
  • Familiarity with the key players in the field of global internet politics and the ability to initiate and develop partnerships with institutions around the world.
  • Excellent English-language writing skills and familiarity with the full range of writing outputs produced in a think tank (for instance, academic articles, policy papers and op-eds). Command of other languages such as German, Turkish, Portuguese, Japanese, Bahasa Indonesia or Hindi would be a plus.

Candidates must be self-driven and able to work independently within a team context. This position is well suited for PhD researchers or post-docs (part-time option).

Starting date: 1 June 2014.
