Postdoctoral Researcher

We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher to join the research team on Climate Scenarios for Sustainable Development led by Prof. Edouard Davin. The team undertake research investigating linkages between climate, biodiversity and land use by combining Earth System Modelling and data-driven approaches. We aim to identify synergies between climate change adaptation and mitigation, nature conservation and human wellbeing and to explore future sustainable development pathways. The engagement platform which is an integral part of the Wyss Academy will ensure that the produced knowledge is made available to stakeholders at the global level as well as in the regional hubs, thus facilitating the emergence of innovative solutions to cope with climate change and reverse biodiversity loss. For this position, expertise is required in one or more of the following areas: 1) climate change mitigation pathways, in particular the role of Nature-Based Solutions and land use toward climate- neutrality 2) global or regional climate modelling with a link to terrestrial processes 3) sustainable food systems and agroecology.

Your tasks

• Conduct research in one of the areas described above • Present your research at scientific conferences and publish results in international peer-reviewed journals • Engage in interdisciplinary scientific collaborations internationally and within the Wyss Academy • Engage with scientists and stakeholders in the Hub Regions though e.g. workshops and field visits • Optionaly contribute to teaching at the University of Bern

Your qualifications

• PhD in Climate/Earth/Environmental sciences or a related field (PhD degree completed or expected to be completed before the start of the position) • Successful publication record • Expertise in one or more of the following areas: 1) climate change mitigation pathways, in particular the role of Nature-Based Solutions and land use toward climate-neutrality 2) global or regional climate modelling with a link to terrestrial processes 3) sustainable food systems and agroecology • Methodological skills in either process-based modelling (e.g., global or regional climate modelling, land use and integrated assessment modelling) or statistical analysis (e.g. data mining and machine learning). Experience with remote sensing is a plus. • Very good skills in English (oral and written) are necessary
