About the position

The USN School of Business has a vacancy position as Postdoctoral Fellow in Innovation, Management or Marketing – Sustainable Digital transformation. The period for appointment is two up to three years. The appointment date is 01.03.22.

The position is associated with the Department of Business, History and Social Sciences and reports to the Head of Department. The place of employment will be at campus Vestfold, Norway.

Information about the position

The position is placed within the groups of researchers at USN studying digital transformation. This mainly include two sub-groups of researchers with extensive portfolios of research projects on digital transformation in service sectors headed by professor Per Egil Pedersen and high-tech manufacturing industries headed by professor VinitParida, respectively. In total, the groups constitute 15 researchers ranging from PhD students and postdocs to experienced senior professors.

Together with the other 15 researchers of the digital transformation project teams, you will work in research projects that aim to influence the future of production, distribution, and consumption in a more sustainable direction. You will take part in advanced analyses of how new industry ecosystems form and evolve and will be given opportunities to build a successful career based on advanced qualitative and quantitative methods and internationally respected publications within the broad field of management research.

This position is open for alignment with several of the projects in the portfolio of the research group on digital transformation such as the project Autonomous Systems in Transport and Industrial Processes (AUTOSTRIP), but the position will align particularly with the challenges the projects: AI Enabled Transition to Circular Business Models for Norwegian Industrial Ecosystems (AI-CBMI). This project explores the transformations required of industrial companies when new technologies like AI support business model innovations at the ecosystem rather than the company level and when circularity and sustainability at the ecosystem level become an inherent characteristic of such new business models. Project partners include manufacturing industry partners like Kongsberg, Scania, and Volvo are already involved in the portfolio of projects held by the research groups.

The project consists of three main work packages where different candidates profile may be relevant. One work package address scoping and literature review, and the second one is an explorative study of AI-driven Circular Business Model in industrial ecosystems, and the third work package address an evolutionary perspective on industrial ecosystem orchestration in AI-driven circular business models. The project relies on extensive collaboration between respected international research institutions associated with USN and industry partners and University partners like Luleå University of Technology. The period for appointment is two up to three years.

If the appointment period is more than two years the teaching and administration loads will be up to 20% per year, equivalent to approximately one full course per year or the equivalent number of hours dedicated to administrative assignments within the project portfolios of the research groups on digital transformation.

Qualifications

Applicants must have a Norwegian doctorate or equivalent education abroad in Innovation, Management or Marketing or their equivalent.

Experience from conducting research in partnership between academia and society (public and/or private stakeholders) will be emphasized and should be documented.

Further, extensive experience with advanced methods related to conducting organizational research is required (e.g., experience with case study research, interviewing and observation and/or experience with advanced quantitative research methods).

The applicants must have obtained the doctorate degree by the time of appointment.

The applicant should demonstrate strong research productivity (i.e., several publications in ABS level 2/3 journals) and the ability to collaborate in research teams as well as with involved stakeholders in research-projects.

The candidates must be motivated to share knowledge and to cooperate with the researchers in the project as well as with the involved partners.

Personal suitability for the position will be emphasized.

Flexibility and good communicative skills towards academics and public audiences will be emphasized.

The successful applicant is expected to be actively engaged in relevant research communities, and to contribute to the development of national and international research networks.

Required languages is English: Excellent. Knowledge and skill in Scandinavian language is a merit.

Salary

The positions as postdoctoral fellow (postdoktor, code 1352) is placed in the state salary scale at levels 62-74 (NOK 555 800 - 694 400 per year), depending on seniority. In special cases, higher salary may be considered. A statutory contribution will be made from the employee's salary to the state pension plan

Salary grade according to seniority and competence. Statutory amounts for the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund will be deducted from salary.

The person appointed must comply with the laws, regulations and agreements that apply at any given time to the post.
