Postdoctoral scholar in the investigation of the molecular interactions between Chlamydia trachomatis and the mammalian host

The Weber Laboratory at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine is seeking an exceptional postdoctoral scholar to join us in the investigation of the molecular interactions between Chlamydia trachomatis and the mammalian host. Projects in the Weber lab use a multidisciplinary approach that integrates microbiology, cell biology, immunology and biochemistry to reveal how C. trachomatissecreted proteins subvert normal host processes to promote bacterial pathogenesis. NIH-funded projects include 1.) determining how specific secreted effector proteins hijack vesicular transport pathways to promote nutrient acquisition by the pathogen and 2.) determining how secreted effector proteins facilitate host cell invasion.

A Ph.D. and experience studying host pathogen interactions between intracellular bacteria and their mammalian hosts is required. The ideal candidate should have a strong publication record with at least 2 first-author peer-reviewed research papers and evidence of an ability to work independently and as part of a team. Compensation will be determined based on experience and current NIH guidelines.

A minimum commitment of 2 years is required with further renewal dependent on performance.

To apply, submit a cover letter outlining your research interests, current CV with publication list, and contact information for three references via the UIOWA job link: https://jobs.uiowa.edu/postdoc/view/3544

Iowa City is well-placed geographically, has a vibrant artistic community, several museums, and beautiful natural scenery. Iowa City is consistently voted one of the best places to live in the country and is an especially attractive workplace for professionals, due to its low cost of living and a thriving life science/technology industry. Iowa City is also located within driving distance of several major metropolitans including Chicago, St. Louis, Milwaukee, Minneapolis-St. Paul, and Omaha.
