Assistant Scientist in inorganic scintillating materials

Job Summary

  This position provides technical and engineering support in the HEP Crystal Laboratory to test and comprehensively characterize inorganic scintillating materials applicable in High Energy Physics experiments.

Job Duties

  Carry out spectroscopic measurement for various scintillating materials before and after irradiation by gamma-rays, neutrons and charged hadrons, including excitation, emission, transmittance and radiation induced absorption spectra, light output, decay kinetics and light response uniformity.

  Carry out data analysis by using various software package under Unix and Windows operating systems.

  Investigate correlations between spectroscopic data and light output as well as radiation hardness for various inorganic scintillators.

  Investigate impurities and defects in scintillating materials and the corresponding consequence in material's radiation hardness.

  Simulate light propagation inside optical volume, including reflection, refraction and radiation damage effects.

Basic Qualifications

  Master's in material science. Ph.D. preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  Knowledge in inorganic scintillator fabrication and structure analysis, spectroscopic measurements, nuclear fast electronics, data acquisition system, Unix and Windows operating system and data analysis software, such as PAW and Labview.
