0.6 part-time, fixed term position until November 2023, Hawthorn campus

Academic Level C3 $76,678 pro-rata + 17% superannuation

About the Job We are seeking a Senior Data Science Research Fellow to contribute to growing the research capacity and impact of the Swinburne Node of the ARC Centre of Excellence in Automated Decision Making and Society and the Social Innovation Research Institute.

As the Senior Data Science Research Fellow, you will work as a data scientist as part of an integrated team of researchers in both the ARC Centre and the Institute. You will undertake data science research projects, with a focus on Natural Language Processing, Machine Learning methods and responsible data management and sharing practices.

In this role, you will actively collaborate with the ARC Centre's national and international network of participants. All ARC Centre research fellows will also have access to the ARC Centre's research training and professional development opportunities, international visiting fellowships and exchanges (travel arrangements permitting), and the ARC Centre's network of industry partners.

About ARC Centre of Excellence in Automated Decision Making and Society The ARC Centre is a new, cross-disciplinary, national research centre, which aims to aims to create the knowledge and strategies necessary for responsible, ethical, and inclusive automated decision-making. Funded by the Australian Research Council from 2020 to 2026, the Centre is hosted at RMIT in Melbourne, Australia, with nodes in eight other Australian universities. The Centre brings together leading researchers in the humanities, social and technological sciences in an international industry, research and civil society network. Its priority domains for public engagement are news and media, transport, social services and health.

About you To be successful in the role, you will have:

PhD in Data Science, Computer Science, Software Development, Statistics or related computing intensive field

Demonstrated proficiency in computer programming, databases and analytics using SQL, MongoDB, Python

Proven ability to apply natural language processing, topic modelling and clustering methods and supervised and unsupervised machine learning techniques on big datasets and unstructured data collection such as the corpus of literature or policy documents or social media data

Demonstrated ability in GIS programming and spatial mapping of data using Python and GIS libraries
