  英国萨里大学系统生物学方向博士后职位招聘

A Postdoctoral Fellow position (experimental, computational or experimental/computational) is available in the Systems Biology group of Dr. Matteo Barberis at the University of Surrey, to investigate how genes are switched on and off, at the right time, throughout the cell division cycle. We are focusing on the mechanisms that control waves of cyclin-dependent kinase activities throughout cell cycle progression, among which transcription factors and their targets, many of which we have recently discovered that control cell cycle and metabolic pathways (Mondeel et al. 2019, NAR, 47, 7825). In particular, we aim to elucidate the dynamic activation and regulation of Forkhead transcription factors, and their cell cycle and metabolic target genes, for a timely cell cycle progression. Therefore, the post holder will ideally combine classical biochemical, genetic, cell-biological and cell-imaging methods (e.g. Linke et al. 2017, Nature NPJ Systems Biology and Applications, 3, 7), or computational and mathematical modeling methods and analyses (e.g. Mondeel et al. 2020, Nature NPJ Systems Biology and Applications, 6, 8), or both, if necessary with global approaches (e.g. Mondeel et al. 2019, Nucleic Acids Research, 47, 7825) in budding yeast.

We are seeking an enthusiastic, highly-motivated and committed scientist. Candidates will be expected to either have a PhD/DPhil, or be near to completing their PhD/DPhil in the one of the following disciplines: systems biology, biochemistry, molecular biology or related field (for an experimental position); systems biology, computational biology, biophysics, mathematical biology, engineering, control theory or related field (for a computational position); systems biology or interdisciplinary related fields (for an experimental/computational position).

For an experimental position, significant laboratory experience in molecular biology techniques, protein and DNA techniques, and gene expression techniques is essential, with a demonstrable experience of following and adapting protocols and selecting appropriate experimental methodologies. Previous experience with genomics analyses is a great plus. Candidates should have demonstrated research excellence using experimental approaches to study gene regulation/biochemical networks.

For a computational position, experience with at least two programming languages, such as Matlab, Mathematica or Python, is essential. and experience with software for simulation and analysis of biochemical networks, such as Copasi, is a great plus. Experience in systems biology projects and/or in mathematical modeling and analysis of biophysical/biochemical systems (e.g. deterministic modeling, nonlinear dynamics, parameter fitting, properties of dynamical systems across high-dimensional parameter spaces) is essential. Knowledge of methods for modeling biological networks and skills in bioinformatics, and/or development of a community database, are a great plus.Candidates should have demonstrated research excellence using computational/mathematical approaches to study biochemical networks.

We offer to work in an international, interdisciplinary team of highly-motivated scientists where you are encouraged to develop your own ideas. Our laboratory is located at the beautiful campus of the University of Surrey, a top 10 UK University close to London. The University of Surrey is internationally recognized for its research in Systems Biology, and the candidate could engage in internal and external collaborations established in the group. We also provide a generous benefits package including final salary pension scheme, relocation provision, and access to world-class leisure facilities.

Informal enquiries should be addressed to Dr. Matteo Barberis (m.barberis@surrey.ac.uk).
