  Job Description

  The Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine, has an exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Associate. This position will work under the direction of the principal investigator in rehabilitation research in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. This position affords an exciting opportunity to be an integral component of a well-established group in studies conducting basic, translational and clinical rehabilitation research.

  The duties and responsibilities for this position may include, but are not limited to:

  Performing a wide variety of experiments in a research laboratory with a focus on molecular biology, biochemistry, pathology and mouse modeling techniques.

  Performing in vivo experiments with mouse models.

  Participating in laboratory management including data management of results from research assays, supply stock and ordering, and equipment maintenance.

  Presentation of data in various venues will be expected.

  Assist in publications

  Must be effective as part of a team.

  Ensures all research is undertaken according to good research practice and guidance.

  The Postdoctoral Associate will be responsible for executing scientific research related to spinal cord injury.

  Clinical assessment for level and completeness of spinal cord injury

  Body Composition assessment with air displacement plethysmography, anthropometrics, bioelectrical impedance analysis and dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry.

  Basal and resting energy expenditure through indirect calorimetry.

  Submaximal and maximal graded upper extremity, lower extremity and whole body exercise tests through indirect calorimetry.

  Strength / power assessment with multi-mode computerized robotic dynamometer.

  Locomotor training with manual and robotic partial-weight bear treadmill and over-ground training systems

  Present materials from research at local and national science meetings.

  Collaborate in PM&R and Miami Project to Cure Paralysis basic and applied research activities.

  Assist and write extramural proposals to gain support.

  Collects, prepares, analyzes, dissects, and evaluates specimens.

  Routine laboratory maintenance, including inventory maintenance, ordering supplies and organizing the laboratory.

  Participates in training sessions and workshops.

  Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

  Supervises students in the laboratory.

  Minimum Qualifications

  Ph.D. or other doctoral degree in a life science field of study or M.D. Skill in collecting, organizing, and analyzing data. Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems. Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.
