  Job Description

  Laboratory of Clinical Investigation/Diabetes Section

  Position Description:

A postdoctoral position in the Diabetes Section under Josephine M. Egan, M.D., Chief and Clinical Director, is available at the National Institute on Aging (NIA) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), located in Baltimore, Maryland.

The post-doctoral position is primarily focused on the study of the signaling pathways resulting in differentiation of human endocrine precursor cells to mature organ specific cells.

The focus of the Diabetes Section is to investigate the metabolic and physiologic alterations that occur in pre-diabetic states and elucidate the underlying etiopathology to develop effective strategies to prevent the transition to diabetes, using both human and animal models. The Diabetes Section is within the Laboratory of Clinical Investigation (LCI), along with the Lipids and Peroxidation Unit, Neuroscience Unit, Lymphocyte Development Unit and the Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Spectroscopy Section. The common theme among these research groups is the identification and development of new therapeutic targets for the treatment of age-related diseases, both within the laboratory and across the Intramural Research Program.

Ability to collaborate on research projects in a collegial environment and to follow GLP is essential. Preference will be given to candidates with a background in diabetes and metabolism, and/or adult stem cell differentiation.
