  Job Summary

  Applications are invited for a fully funded position at the Research Assistant / Associate (PostDoc) level within the Aerial Robotics Laboratory at Imperial College London. The project will investigate automated environmental sensing and interaction methods for extreme and hazardous environments. Main research thrusts will include smart mechanism design, morphing body structures as well as system integration, optimization and testing.

  The project will directly benefit from outstanding facilities in Aerial Robotics manufacturing and testing, including a new Vicon equipped flight arena, 13 wind/water tunnels and the rapid prototyping and composite fabrication centre at the Aeronautics Department. The work location will be the central London South Kensington campus next to Hyde Park offering an excellent ecosystem for furtherance of the project and for personal development in a variety of areas

  Duties and responsibilities

  Conceive, develop and test novel robot prototypes employing new ways of multi-modal mobility using shape-morphing technologies.

  Contribute to system documentation and the overall maintenance of manufacturing and design tools as well as the robot control infrastructure.

  Write progress reports and prepare results for publication and dissemination via presentations, scientific papers, outreach activities and public/industrial engagement.

  Coordinate the collaborative project as a key member of the project management team.

  Be key member of the research group and perform reasonable tasks related to the furtherance of the project aims and the laboratory as a whole.

  Supervision of PhD and graduate level student projects. Contribution to teaching and proposal writing is possible.

  Essential requirements

  Applicants must have a strong publication record preferably with relevant experience in Aerial Robot prototyping and testing.

  Those appointed at Research Associate level

  Hold a PhD (or equivalent) in robotics, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related discipline.

  Those appointed at Research Assistant level

  Near completion of a PhD (or equivalent) in robotics, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
