  HJF is seeking a Postdoctoral fellow to support leukemia research in Dr. Yang Du’s laboratory in the Department of Pediatrics at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS) in Bethesda, Maryland. This position is ideal for highly motivated junior scientist. Recent Ph.D. in Molecular Biology or related disciplines with a minimum of four years of lab research experience required. Research project will be focused on transcriptional and epigenetic mechanisms controlling self-renewal of normal hematopoietic stem cells and leukemia stem cells of myeloid leukemias using mouse models (Visit: https://www.usuhs.edu/ped/faculty for more information about research interests and projects). Applicant must work well with laboratory team to accomplish research objectives. The applicant must have good problem-solving skills, excellent communication skills and a strong work ethic.   ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

  1. Performs and designs original laboratory research projects consistent with the laboratory mission, including collection and organization of data. Makes detailed observations about experiments.

  2. Prepares technical reports, summaries, and protocols.

  3. Formulates experimental hypotheses and designs experimental protocols

  4. Plans, conducts and completes investigations under the supervision of the head of the laboratory

  5. Maintains clear and accurate laboratory records, inventories and logbooks.

  6. Performs data entry for research projects and maintains databases.

  7. Participates in meetings regarding experimental design and development.

  8. Presents scientific findings in oral and written format; writes technical reports and scientific papers for peer reviewed journals. Preparation of grants/contracts and proposals is also required.

  9. Assists the principal investigator to provide experimental and technical supervision of one or more technician, graduate student and/or clinical fellows.

  10. Maintains supplies in the laboratory and keeps the laboratory area clean.

  11. Ensuring systems are in place for efficient planning of lab supplies, records and document management as well as experimental protocols and data, and coordination of good lab practices and lab safety.

  Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Must have strong background in cell and molecular biology techniques, including cell culture, flow cytometry, real-time PCR, immunoblotting, and molecular cloning. Experience with hematopoietic system and transgenic mouse models preferred.

  Minimum Education/Training Requirements: PhD in Molecular Biology or related disciplines

  Minimum Experience: 0-5 years with a preferred minimum of 4 years of basic science research experience

  Physical Capabilities: Long periods of standing and sitting; handling various chemicals

  Work Environment: Laboratory environment; will occasionally require working after hours as experimental protocols require; will involve working with biohazardous materials and laboratory animals.
