  Postdoctoral researcher in Human Immunology

A postdoctoral scholarship is available immediately to study human B cell and antibody immunodominance in response to malaria infection in the Angeletti lab (www.angelettilab.com) at the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, Institute of Biomedicine at the University of Gothenburg. The lab is funded by several grants, including support from the European Research Council (ERC).

  Project Description

The project is aimed at understanding the protective targets of human memory B cells of individuals living in malaria endemic areas and builds on several collaborations in Sweden and Uganda. The goal is to isolate protective human monoclonal antibodies to known and unknown Plasmodium falciparum proteins from memory B cells. We have access to PBMCs from a large cohort of individuals living in malaria endemic areas.

  Qualifications

We are looking for a highly motivated individual with a recent PhD, proven track record of successful scientific work and research background in human immunology.

Essential skills include ability to handle human material, proficiency with multicolor flow cytometry and cell sorting. Previous work with B cells and antibodies, including cloning, purification and characterization of monoclonal antibodies is highly advantageous. Previous knowledge of parasitology is not required.

The successful candidate is expected to be highly motivated, capable to plan and execute experiments independently and to actively contribute scientifically to the group. Fluency in spoken and written English is essential.

  How to apply

The position is available starting January 2020. Funding is in the form of a tax-exempt scholarship. The funding is provided for a maximum of two years, with possibility for extension on complete salary scheme.
