  Job Description

We are seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Research Associate with a background in radiochemistry or organic chemistry to undertake research using new live-cell tracers to track infections in humans. The work will be undertaken in the laboratory of David Wilson at the state-of-the-art China Basin and Mission Bay campuses of UCSF. The focus of the research is on the development of several radiotracers that have promise for rapid translation into clinical practice (see for example https://www-nature-com.ucsf.idm.oclc.org/articles/s41598-017-08415-x and https://pubs.acs.org/doi/abs/10.1021/acsinfecdis.8b00061). Such tracers will also be excellent tools to study the metabolic states of living bacteria in model infections. We have also developed cutting edge techniques to study bacterial metabolism via hyperpolarized 13C NMR spectroscopy (https://pubs.acs.org/doi/abs/10.1021/acsinfecdis.7b00234), which we plan to deploy in our efforts.

Applicants should hold a Ph.D. or M.D., or be near completion of their degree, in a relevant subject area. The applicant should have relevant research experience in synthetic chemistry and biologic validation of small molecules, and have a proven research track record. The applicant should also be highly motivated with exceptional communications skills and the ability to work with a dynamic team. Preferred skills would be prior experience with animal models and experience with the tools of chemical biology.

This full-time post is fully funded by the NIH and DARPA.

Interested applicants should submit 1) a curriculum vitae, 2) a brief statement of research interests and 3) a list of three references. Please send inquiries to David Wilson (david.m.wilson@ucsf.edu)

This is a full-time, one-year appointment with the possibility of renewal based on the availability of funding, ongoing operational needs and satisfactory performance. The University of California, San Francisco is an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer with a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of diversity among its faculty, staff, and students.
