  Job Description

The Department of Physiology & Biophysics at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine seeks one highly motivated postdoctoral scholar to conduct research in the laboratory of Dr. Tingwei Mu (https://physiology.case.edu/people/faculty/tingwei-mu/). Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine ranks #25 according to the newest US News and World Report (https://www.usnews.com/best-graduate-schools/top-medical-schools/case-western-reserve-university-04086).

The Mu lab focuses on protein quality control of ion channels. Ion channel protein folding and misfolding is an emerging field in the medical science field. We use a combination of neuroscience, electrophysiology, cell biology, and biophysics approaches to determine how the proteostasis network orchestrates the folding, degradation, assembly, trafficking and function of neuroreceptors. Another research focus of the lab is the development of therapeutics that correct the misfolding of pathogenic ion channels, as a therapeutic strategy for the treatment of such protein conformational diseases.

The successful applicant will participate in projects on elucidating the molecular mechanism of ion channel folding, assembly, and trafficking. The posted position will be supported by our newly funded NIH RO1 grant. The successful candidates will be offered competitive salary and benefits packages, as well as considerable professional development opportunities.

The candidate is expected to track biogenesis of neuroreceptors and study pharmacology of ion channels using electrophysiology techniques. The applicant must have a PhD and/or MD degree in biophysics, neuroscience, cell biology, pharmacology, or related field. Previous experience with endoplasmic reticulum biology, fluorescence techniques, or neuroreceptors-related research is desired, but not required.

Interested individuals should send a cover letter, CV, and the names/phone numbers of three people who could provide letters of reference by email to tingwei.mu@case.edu. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the positions are filled.
