  职责

  The Department

  The Department of Anatomy is one of the largest and longest-established departments at the University of Otago. Our staff teach and research a diverse range of exciting topics in the field of biomedical sciences, including neuroscience.

  The Role

  As a Postdoctoral Fellow, you will be responsible for carrying out a project to systematically investigate how the brain arginine metabolism (the polyamine system in particular) changes in tauopathies such as Alzheimer’s disease and frontotemporal dementia.

  Duties will include:

  Enzyme assays, western blot, real-time quantitative PCR and high performance liquid chromatography and liquid chromatography/mass spectrometric assays.

  Tissue collection and preparation.

  Data collection and data entry.

  Statistical analysis of data.

  Writing manuscripts reporting on research results for publication in peer-reviewed journals.

  Presenting findings at scientific meetings.

  Assisting in writing grant applications and pursuing funding opportunities.

  Assisting with writing progress reports to the funding organisation.

  Your Skills and Experience

  PhD in an appropriate neuroscience or biological science.

  Experience in enzyme assays, western blot, real-time quantitative PCR and high performance liquid chromatography and liquid chromatography/mass spectrometric assays.

  Evidence of ability to publish.

  A thorough approach to laboratory practice, accurate record-keeping, attention to detail and compliance with all regulatory requirements.

  Ability to work cooperatively with a wide variety of people within a research environment.

  Ability to work without direct supervision, set priorities and allocate own timetable.

  Self-motivated, and committed to a research career in the biological sciences.
