　　As German Research Center for Environmental Health, Helmholtz Zentrum München pursues the goal of developing personalized medical approaches for the prevention and therapy of major common diseases such as diabetes mellitus, allergies and lung diseases. To achieve this, it investigates the interaction of genetics, environmental factors and lifestyle.

　　The Institute of Translational Genomics focusses on translating insights from genomics into mechanisms of disease development and progression. At ITG, we leverage big data in genetics and genomics to gain insights into the mechanisms underpinning medically-relevant, complex human traits.

　　Job Description

　　In this position you will take a leading scientific role in integrating signals arising from large-scale genome-wide studies (in >1M individuals) with deep multidimensional functional genomics data in order to map associated variants to likely causal genes. You will identify and validate novel treatment targets and opportunities for drug repositioning. You will use artificial intelligence approaches to stratify patients based on their genomic and molecular profiles, aiming to catalyse personalised medicine approaches and improve disease management. You will use causal inference analysis to disentangle the directionality of association across a range of disease risk factors. You will identify candidate biomarkers for validation, and will construct polygenic risk scores aiming to improve prediction and prognosis accuracy.

　　Your Qualifications

　　The ideal applicant will have expertise in applying computational approaches to the analysis of genomic datasets to infer translational insights. You will join a lively international group that combines expertise in genetics, statistics, computational biology, and bioinformatics in a friendly and collaborative environment.

　　Essential Skills

　　- PhD in relevant discipline

　　- Experience in large-scale analysis of genomics data

　　- Programming skills (e.g. R, perl, python)

　　- Excellent communication skills, ability to develop good working relationships

　　- Good project management and organisational skills

　　- Attention to detail and ability to work to tight timelines

　　- English language well-written and fluently spoken

　　- Track record in producing publications
