　　Short summary

　　An exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Training Fellow is available in James Turner’s lab. The lab is a highly interactive group of ten staff, including postdocs, PhD students, and technicians, that work on the mammalian sex (X and Y) chromosomes. We research areas including X-chromosome inactivation, germ cell and embryo development, sex chromosome evolution and stem cell biology, with the principle aim being to develop more personalised disease therapies for men and women. Research in the lab is funded by the ERC, MRC, Wellcome, CRUK and AstraZeneca. Several projects related to sex chromosome biology are available. Examples include understanding how sex chromosome complement affects sex differences in stem cell biology and early embryogenesis, how aneuploidy and DNA damage influences the embryonic epigenome, and deciphering the functions of the sex chromosomes in disease susceptibility. The applicant will have access to a wide array of model organisms and techniques, including genome editing, live cell imaging and ‘omics technologies (including single cell work). Training in computational biology will also be provided where necessary. The applicant will take a lead role in their project, to collaborate within the team and foster collaborations, teach junior members of the team and interact with other members of the institute. Opportunities to carry out wet lab are also available.

　　Some of the specific aims for this role are, but not limited to:

　　·         Investigating research questions and developing specific research project(s) under guidance from Group Leader

　　·         Providing specialist advice and guidance, sharing knowledge and expertise for the benefit of others

　　·         Providing significant contribution to the production of research papers for publication, presenting findings to group members and other internal audiences

　　·         Presenting work externally at international meetings

　　·         Authoring papers under guidance from Group Leader

　　·         Following Postdoctoral Training programme

　　·         Developing academic independence

　　·         Improving established protocols and/or develops new protocols

　　·         May be required to guide others
