　　Post-doctoral position (2-3 years) available to study role of T-type (low-voltage-activated) calcium channels in animals with painful diabetic neuropathy. Our research involves biophysical techniques to measure membrane currents (whole-cell voltage-clamp and current-clamp recordings) from the dorsal root ganglion neurons and dorsal horn neurons. We also plan to use immunohistochemistry and electron microscopy to identify subtypes of voltage-gated calcium channels on nerve terminals of sensory neurons and their expression and trafficking in diabetic animals. At the system level, we will examine the behavioral effects of pharmacological agents in wild-type mice, as well as mice lacking subtypes of T-type calcium channels.
