Dedicated research-only position as an independent laboratory head and EMBLAustralia Group Leader

Provision of core research funding and research management support

Critical mass of outstanding researchers within an excellent collaborative scientific environment

Access to EMBL Australia development activities (e.g. scientific retreats, reviews, selection panels and student programs)

The EMBL Australia Partner Laboratory Network

Australia is the first Associate Member of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL). EMBL is an international research organisation that fosters excellence by providing a highly collaborative environment that benefits the research of all its scientists, whether at graduate, post-doctoral or group leader level. A key initiative of the associate membership is the EMBL Australia Partner Laboratory Network, a partnership of Australian research institutions which provide long-term funded research-only positions allowing early to mid-career researchers to pursue ambitious research programs. Monash University is hosting the node in Victoria of the Partner Laboratory Network.

The Monash Biomedicine Discovery Institute (BDI) is one of the largest and most dynamic biomedical research organisations in Australia. The BDI comprises six inter-disciplinary health-focused research Programs, each led by a research leader in the field. These include Infection and Immunity, Cancer, Cardiovascular Disease, Development and Stem Cells, Metabolic Disease, and Obesity and Neuroscience. The BDI houses more than 100 research groups that publish >700 papers in international journals every year. Annual research income is over $50 million, the vast majority of which comes from the NHMRC and ARC. The BDI works closely with clinical and drug development precincts at Monash and has a number of major industry partnerships to facilitate the translation of our research.
