　　The University of Queensland Diamantina Institute was established in 2007 as the sixth research institute of The University of Queensland. The aim of the Institute is to develop a better understanding of the molecular and cellular basis of disease, and to translate that understanding into practical outcomes for patients. Based at the Translational Research Institute (TRI) at the Princess Alexandra Hospital teaching campus in Brisbane, Australia, the Institute has more than 300 researchers and students who work closely with clinicians in the areas of cancer, immunology and genomic medicine.

　　The role: The successful appointee will drive research defining the impact of a novel class of antimicrobials on Mycobacterium tuberculosis using in vitro and in vivo approaches. This position requires a skilled molecular microbiologist to genetically manipulate mycobacteria, as well as characterise the impact of antimicrobials on Mycobacterium tuberculosis physiology at the cellular and molecular level.

　　The person: Applicants should possess a PhD in Microbiology, Molecular Biology or related area with demonstrated expertise in the genetic manipulation, as well as the molecular and biochemical characterisation of pathogenic mycobacteria. This will be evidenced by relevant publications as lead author in high-quality peer-reviewed international scientific journals. We are seeking a highly motivated individual committed to excellence in scientific research with excellent laboratory and interpersonal skills, who will contribute to an intellectually stimulating research environment and the training of junior scientists. Strong written and spoken communication skills, ability to timely deliver on grant milestones, and effective interactions with external collaborators are essential.

　　Remuneration: This is a full-time, fixed-term appointment at Academic Level A for two years. The remuneration package will be in the range AUD$81,545 – $87,535 p.a., plus employer superannuation contributions of up to 17% (total package will be in the range AUD$95,408 – $102,416 p.a.).
