摘要:

Research Associate in Biochemistry

University of Bristol - School of Biochemistry

EPICut project: Two postdoc positions are available following the award of a prestigious 5-year ERC advanced grant to Prof. Mark Szczelkun. The ambition of the EPICut project is to understand: the structural and mechanistic basis for how a diverse set of prokaryotic Type IV restriction systems cleave epigenetic modifications on mobile genetic elements such as phage; how these immune systems influence bacteria at the level of individual cells, populations and communities; and to further exploit these enzymes as tools for recognition of epigenetic markers.

Research Associate in Biochemistry post: we are looking for a talented and enthusiastic individual who can use biochemical and biophysical assays to investigate the mechanisms of modified DNA recognition and cleavage. You will join an established and well-funded research lab in the DNA-Protein Interactions Unit, with access to state-of-the-art equipment. The role will involve the day-to-day project management, assisting with training and supervision of postgraduate/undergraduate students, and collaborations with other members of the EPICut project.

A PhD in protein biochemistry, biophysics, or a related subject is essential (awarded or imminent). Previous experience in protein chemistry, enzymology, fluorescence spectroscopy, and/or the analysis of DNA-protein interactions, is desirable. You will be highly organised, and eager to learn new skills and to interact with a broad range of colleagues. Funding is available for 5 years in the first instance.
