(new position: July 12, 2018)

The Program in Science, Technology, and Environmental Policy at Princeton University invites applicants to apply for the following positions at the postdoctoral level and above. These positions report to Professor David S. Wilcove (see www.princeton.edu/~dwilcove) in the following areas of research:

(1). Social and ecological dimensions of the wild bird trade in Indonesia. Topics of interest include: how the trade operates, with a focus on the supply chain and the motivations, behavior, and income of bird trappers; determining which attributes of wild versus captive-reared birds are favored by purchasers of birds; using population models to determine sustainable rates of trapping and comparing those rates with current rates. Experience conducting research in Indonesia and the ability to speak Bahasa Indonesian are highly desirable. Applicants interested in this position should specify which topic they wish to study. (2). Modeling the impacts of climate change and land-use change on pikas (family Ochotonidae) in China. Appropriate expertise in ecological modeling required; experience conducting research in China and ability to speak Mandarin are highly desirable. (3). Impacts of hunting and trapping on wild bird populations in eastern China. Experience working in China and ability to speak Mandarin are required. (4). Analysis of the effectiveness of different conservation strategies in recovering imperiled species of plants and animals, primarily using data from the IUCN Red List. Experience building and analyzing large biodiversity data sets is required.

These research positions are open to all regardless of citizenship, and do not support work towards the completion of a degree. Salary and full employee benefits are offered in accordance with University guidelines. Applicants should submit a CV, contact information for three references, and a cover letter describing their areas of expertise and interest.
