We seek an outstanding postdoctoral research associate (PDRA) to participate in a project that aims to improve current interpretation of the East Asian climate response to aerosol forcing and reduce uncertainty in near-future regional climate projections. The work is funded by the Climate Science for Services Partnership: China project: “Aerosols and regional climate dynamics”, and will involve a team from the Universities of Reading, Edinburgh, Leeds, and Exeter, together with a number of international partners. The PDRA will perform analysis of atmospheric circulation patterns that contribute to episodes of poor regional air quality. The PDRA will determine whether the frequency and severity of air quality events changes with time, and to what extent anthropogenic aerosol emissions play a role in this change. Performing experiments with a nudged version of the HadGEM3 model, the PDRA will assess the impact of climate variability and model biases on the simulated freque!ncy and severity of air quality events. The PDRA will work in collaboration with the project team as well project partners from the Institute of Atmospheric Physics (Beijing), and engage with the Met Office.

This post is full time and fixed term until 30th September 2019 (with a possibility of an extension depending on funding). The post is available from 1st October 2018.
