Postdoctoral researcher in integrative metabolism and nutrient receptor biology

  · The Ohio State University

  · Location: Columbus, OH

  · Job Number: 7051554

  · Posting Date: May 23, 2018

  · Application Deadline: Open Until Filled

  Job Description

  Research Description

A Post-Doctoral Researcher position is available at the Department of Biological Chemistry and Pharmacology in the College of Medicine at The Ohio State University to study the role of chemosensory receptors in metabolism using genetic mouse models and cellular/molecular mechanisms in an interdisciplinary research setting involving translational opportunities. Our group is investigating how extra-oral sweet taste receptors (STRs) sense acute and chronic changes in dietary and circulating nutrients to regulate metabolism, such as endocrine responses and substrate utilization. Emphasis is placed on understanding how STRs are regulated and contribute to the development of metabolic diseases, such as obesity and diabetes.

  Training environment

The Kyriazis Lab is formally affiliated with the Diabetes and Metabolism Research Center (DMRC) that includes a multidisciplinary team of researchers (basic scientists, clinicians and surgeons) with broad expertise in metabolic and cardiovascular diseases. Our lab aims to decipher the role of chemosensory receptors in the gut and skeletal muscle and decipher their role in the development of metabolic diseases (NIH funded) by implementing direct bench-to-bedside approaches in collaboration with DMRC investigators. The Post-Doctoral Researcher will get ample training opportunities in molecular and animal integrative metabolism and exposure to state-of-the-art techniques (metabolomics, genomics, ex vivo transepithelial flux, animal metabolic phenotyping, etc.). The training program also involves institute-wide postdoctoral seminars, career workshops and opportunities to interact with nationally recognized scientists in metabolism.

  Requirements

We seek highly committed and motivated candidates that have a Ph.D. and or M.D. with a strong background and technical skills in mouse physiology including methods in cell-signaling, gene regulation and molecular/cell biology. Experience in organ systems such as the endocrine, digestive, muscular, or immune are highly preferred. Interested applicants should submit a cover letter including research accomplishments and interests, CV and names of at least three (3) references at kyriazis.2@osu.edu
