Post-Doctoral Research Fellow in Neuromorphic Computing

University of Sussex - School of Engineering and Informatics

Expected interview date: 20 August 2018.
Expected start date: 01 October 2018.

Contract: Fixed-term until 31 March 2020.

We are seeking to employ a post-doctoral research fellow within the Sub-Project 9 of the Human Brain Project (HBP, https://www.humanbrainproject.eu/en/) to work on applications of neuromorphic computing.

The Human Brain Project is a €1 Billion EU Flagship project with the aim of creating the IT tools for deciphering the workings of the Human Brain.

Under the supervision of Prof. Thomas Nowotny you will work with the neuromorphic computing platforms of the HBP, in particular the BrainScaleS system developed at the University of Heidelberg. You will develop applications for neuromorphic computing and evaluate them in simulation and on the actual hardware. Applications can range from machine learning, for example in the area of “learning to learn”, to computational Neuroscience.

Competitive candidates for this position will have a keen interest in neuromorphic computing, excellent programming skills, and experience in one or more of the areas of:

  1. machine learning;
  2. computational Neuroscience; or
  3. neuromorphic computing.
